Stephan King said, " Monsters are real, ghosts are real too; they live inside us
and sometimes they win."
The gravity of this quote lays over me like a warm blanket. Why? It is because it illuminates my views on psychology and all aspects of mental illness.
As a survivor of childhood abuse I have come to know monsters and ghosts all too well. Some can be overtaken and put to rest, while others can sometimes take over you. Overwelm you and drag you over and over again to a dark place that you never really grow accustomed.
What makes it worse for everyone this dark place looks different so the experience can never really be shared, and that isolates us. Even though we know that other people have monsters and ghosts we give into the lie that our monsters are different from their monsters and our ghosts are different from their ghosts and so instead of seeking understanding we convince ourselves that it is not out there and we just hide under the blankets alone.
This is depression. This is just the devistation of another loss to our monsters and ghosts.
